Justin’s hockey journey spans a remarkable career as both a player and a coach, with extensive experience at the highest levels. He started his minor hockey career with the Central Ontario Wolves AAA and the Peterborough Petes AAA programs before being drafted by the Peterborough Petes in the OHL Draft. Justin played with the Petes from 2003 to 2007, serving as assistant captain during his time with the team. In 2006, he helped lead the Petes to an OHL Championship and a spot in the Memorial Cup. He also had a brief stint with the Bowmanville Eagles Jr. A in the OJHL.
After his junior career, Justin went on to play five seasons of USports hockey at Carleton University, where he again served as assistant captain for each of his years.
Upon retiring from playing, Justin transitioned into coaching, starting as an assistant coach with the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (UOIT) Men’s Team from 2012 to 2015. In 2016, he became the Head Coach of the Ontario Tech (UOIT) Women’s Team, where his leadership led the team to success and earned him the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Coach of the Year Award in the 2021/22 season. Justin departed from the Ridgebacks in 2024, bringing his coaching career to the next level.
Beyond coaching, Justin has been deeply involved in hockey as an on-ice instructor, with a notable tenure at Roger Neilson’s Hockey Camp from 2004-2007 and at Carleton University Hockey Camps from 2007-2012, where he transitioned to the role of Camp Supervisor. Since 2012, he has co-owned and worked with Scary Skate, a company dedicated to developing hockey players from grassroots to professional levels, primarily in the Durham Region.
Justin’s extensive experience, passion for player development, and commitment to fostering growth at all levels of the game make him an invaluable addition to Okanagan Hockey Ontario. He combines a deep understanding of hockey with a supportive coaching style to bring out the best in every athlete.
