Leonard Ess – Inaugural Recipient of the Doug Corbishley Memorial Scholarship

Congratulations to Leonard Ess – Inaugural Recipient of the Doug Corbishley Memorial Scholarship

Okanagan Hockey Ontario is proud to announce that Leonard Ess, a graduating student-athlete from Okanagan Hockey Ontario, has been named the 2025 recipient of the Doug Corbishley Memorial Scholarship. This prestigious award was presented during the Academy Awards Ceremony on June 24 at the Iroquois Sports Centre in Whitby, Ontario.

Established in memory of Doug Corbishley, a respected shareholder and long-serving member of the OHG Board of Directors and Executive Committee, this scholarship recognizes one outstanding graduate annually from the Okanagan Hockey Group (OHG) Academy network. Doug’s legacy is one of mentorship, integrity, academic excellence, and dedication to developing future leaders—both on and off the ice.

Leonard was selected for embodying the very values Doug championed. As one of the top academic performers in his graduating class, Leonard has consistently demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence, all while balancing the demands of elite-level hockey. He has shown leadership within the Academy and his school community, and has been actively involved in volunteer initiatives, making a meaningful impact beyond the rink.

Doug Corbishley believed that student-athletes should be more than strong players—he believed they should be strong people. Through this award, we are proud to honour Doug’s legacy by recognizing a student-athlete who exemplifies his vision and values.

Please join us in congratulating Leonard Ess on this incredible honour. We look forward to celebrating his achievement at the upcoming awards ceremony and supporting him as he continues his journey in post-secondary education.

This scholarship will be presented annually in partnership with the Corbishley family and the OHG Executive Committee.
